Kennesaw Mountain Report 7/27/98 0735-1015 75F down to 72F Slight rain as I started up the hill, became moderate, and then heavy. Rain tapered off around 0840, so I drove back up and KP came up soon after. Sky began to clear, then became heavy and overcast again and heavy rain started just after I left. Winds calm in rain, then N 10 knots in between and then calm again. All birds were in between the rain showers. Obs: G Beaton K Peloquin BWHA 1i probably same bird as yesterday CHSW 7 RTHU 2f BGGN 3 WEVI 2 1m 1juv, still in Bell's plumage YTVI 1 REVI 4 NOPA 2 1m 1f BNWA 4 2if 2juv The juvs had gray heads with a couple of faint spots of yellow coming in, and are similar to the one seen with an adult on 7/11. They only retain this plumage for a few days once they leave the nest, so not only are these very young birds but this is a second set! PRWA 1if CEWA 3 1f 1if 1probably im got good looks but a combination of plumage features SUTA 1 call SCTA 1 call (only the "chick" of chick-burr) INBU 1i AMGO 1 In spite of the weather, a pretty exciting day for July with the CEWA and BNWA juvs. The real migrants should start filtering in soon, not just our post-breeding dispersal stuff.
