Black-throated Green Warbler - Dendroica virens

Spring Migration

Black-throated Green Warblers are one of the first spring migrants to arrive at Kennesaw Mountain.   The early date for spring migration is March 22nd, and their numbers build slowly over the last week of March.  These birds are fairly common on the mountain from the second week of April through the first week of May.  The single high count for Black-throated Green Warblers is 36.  The late date for Black-throated Green Warbler is May 24th.

Fall Migration

Black-throated Green Warblers are also one of the first returning warblers in the fall.  Early migrants have been found on Kennesaw as early as July 3rd.  These birds are no doubt local breeders from nearby areas that are dispersing.  Black-throated Green warblers are common migrants in the fall from the middle of August through the end of September.  The single day high count for this migrant is 41.  The late date for Black-throated Green is November 7th.
