The following info courtesy of Giff Beaton: Attached is a link to the shot of the orchid found by Eric Holenda today at KMT. According to the Guide to the Plants of Granite Outcrops by Murdy and Carter (p. 45), it is the Southern Slender Ladies' Tresses, or Spiranthes gracilis. Here is the printed description: The SSLT is a perennial orchid whose leaves are basal and usually absent at flowering time. A slender stem, 1 to 2 feet tall, bears small white flowers in a single rank that is usually spiralled in appearance. It is the only member of the Orchid Family to inhabit granite outcrops. Occurs in dry open areas bordering the rock outcrop in the Eastern US. Go to the website at http://www.georgia-birding.com/KMT/fall03.htm to view the picture. Thanks for pointing it out Eric!! BZ
