Kennesaw Mountain Summary Reports Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park has always been known to have excellent birding habitat. But as the mountain itself has been birded more carefully in the past 10 years, it has been "discovered" to be the rich migrant stopover it is. While the mountain has always enjoyed the reputation of being the best Atlanta location for observing fall raptor migration movements, we now know that the tree lines up and down the paved road to the summit can yield an exciting passerine display. The road is open for foot-travel only on weekends, but may be driven during the week. The pedestrian mode is the only recommended mode for birding. This site has yielded a single-observer single-day count of 31 warbler species menu.
Giff Beaton's complete annotated checklist is now available. It is a very valuable tool and contains the most complete data on the birds of Kennesaw Mountain. It can be purchased at http://www.gos.org/publications.html. You can get the latest updates to the book by clicking on the book cover in the left margin.
